Afiaolu 2018: Nwafor Orizu Unity Cup Kicks Off In Grand Style

The 2018 Nnewi Afia Olu football tournament in memory of the Former Acting President of Nigeria Dr. Akwaeke Abyssinia Nwafor Orizu was officially kicked off yesterday 19th August 2018 at the popular Nnewi High School field.

*The kick-off ceremony which was well attended by Nnewi residents especially the youths was officially kicked off by Nnewichi born Chinese based businessman Mr. Frank Udogu.*

The kick-off ceremony had the presence of the Chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Hon. Sir Ugochukwu Udemezu who was represented by the Chairman of 2018 Afia Olu Nnewi festival Hon. Amaobi Adukwulu and the President of Nnewi Youths Amb. Arinze Muoneke.

In his speech, *Mr. Frank Udogu* who is one of the sponsors of the tournament charged the Youths of Nnewi on the need to emulate the life and times of Dr. Akwaeke Abyssinia Nwafor Orizu who sacrificed his personal comfort for the common good of Nnewi, Nigeria and Africa.

*Mr. Frank Udogu who is also the chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi China and CEO of C.Frank shipping services China  advised the youths and players participating in the tournament to keep to rules and avoid things that will cause the disorder.*

*The tournament started with the match between Otolo and Nnewichi which ended 2-0 in favor of Otolo with a brace scored by Uchenna Junior Geoffrey with jersey number 11.*

The match was officiated by Simon Okoro as a referee with James Ikenna and Chikaodoli Umunabuike serving as linemen.

Nwafor-Orizu is being remembered for his outstanding contributions to the unity and progress of Nnewi.

Nwafor Orizu is a man whose story of humble beginning will inspire any living being. *He had a very turbulent life in his early years in life especially after the death of his father, Eze Ugboayamba, Igwe Orizu 1, but later emerged victorious through his deep-rooted belief, implicit confidence and unshakeable faith in God as the supreme father of the universe.*

The winner of the tournament is expected to go home with 400, 000 Naira prize money while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams will get 300, 000 Naira and 200, 000 Naira and 100,000 Naira respectively.
