AFIA OLU NNEWI: HAUSA COMMUNITY PARTAKES AS EVENT COMES TO AN END

There was a display of culture, tradition and masquerade dances at the Enataedo square as the Afia olu Nnewi 2018 closing ceremony held today.
The event was graced by His Royal highness Igwe K.O.N. Orizu (Igwe Nnewi), Obi Charles Afamefuna (Obi Uruagu), Obi Bennett Okafor (Obi Umudim), and a representative of Obi Nnewichi, Elder Soge Egbunna. The occasion started with the breaking of kolanut by Igwe K.O.N Orizu, he prayed for the fruitfulness of Nnewi and a peaceful community.
The keynote address was presented by Sir. Orji Udemezue, CEO, Flame Academy & Consulting limited. In his address titled “sustaining Our Progress as a people”, he talked about adapting to the 21st century world of fast paced technology and new skills to help better the lives of people. He also emphasized the importance of education and sustaining the Nnewi progress and culture in the 21st century.
Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah and his entourage were also part of the celebrants in the Afia-olu festival. His entrance was accompanied by the song of the live band led by Prophet Chidi Akaneme (akanwemmadu) who lauded him with praises as he made his way into the venue. Dr Ifeanyi Ubah addressed the crowd by thanking ndi Nnewi for the support he received from them when he contested for the governorship position under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) and won all the polling booths in Nnewi. He urged them to show him the same support as he aspires for the senatorial position in Anambra south.
Remarkably present was the Chairman of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital(NAUTH) governing council and Governorship aspirant in Taraba State under the platform of the All Progressive Congress(APC), Chief Ezekiel Irmiya Afukonyo , and his team from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching hospital including the Chief Medical Director Prof. Anthony Igwegbe. Chief Afukonyo, said “We produce yam in large quantities but do not celebrate it the way I have seen it in nnewi today. He said he will take what he has seen back home”. He furthermore commended the Nnewi hospitality. Chief Ezekiel encouraged the young ones to emulate the legacies of Innoson, Chicason, Ibeto and great sons of Nnewi, in order to take over after they are gone. He asked Ndi Nnewi to help him complete the permanent site of the hospital in Akamiri, Umudim Nnewi.
Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu ably represented by Engr. Sir Chidi Anuligo ,urged ndi Nnewi to vote their own despite uproars from the Ifeanyi Ubah campaign team roared with disapproval. She supported the Afiaolu with the sum of two hundred thousand naira.
Also present were; Dr D.V.C Obi flanked by his St. John’s old boys group from Kaduna and a group of persons from the hausa community in Nnewi; Frank Udogu, the president of Nzukora Nnewi in China and a host of other guests.
The event ended with beautiful display of dance steps by the people and different masquerade group like nwa nsi, aku ezi, odogwu, adanma and others, all bringing the afia olu festival to an end.
