The sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) across the entire south-east today recorded successful outcomes. In the event of the order, many people willingly obeyed while some adhered to it out of fear of the group and its members, others blatantly refused to obey, daring the group to do their worst.

Yesterday, there were lots of uncertainties as to whether or not the sit-at-home declaration would be taken seriously. The Onitsha and Awka main markets witnessed larger purchases as people bought items ranging from foodstuff to petrol in large quantities against today’s exercise.

This morning as observed in Nnewi, the order seemed to have been taking seriously. Markets were unusually scanty but not completely empty earlier in the morning as a few women still brought out their wares seeking patronage. The roads leading towards the roundabout and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital were free and devoid of the usual large number of automobiles that ply the road.
We visited 3 schools and saw that the schools were not open for studies today. One of the schools had by themselves made today a holiday for pupils and students. One other school; teachers were present in school but the school children were nowhere to be found. The last school we visited had both their teachers and a few school children presents but out of fear and uncertainty, they were yet to even enter their classrooms.
From observation, it can be deduced that the IPOB sit at home order is being observed in Nnewi successfully.
