A reliable source who was privy to a phone conversation between a major political backer of Ifeanyi Ubah, an APGA senatorial aspirant and Gov Obiano yesterday, on, Friday, September 14th 2018 has informed AnaedoOnline that the Governor denied ever promising or signing an agreement with Ifeanyi Ubah that he will be given the APGA ticket for Anambra South Senatorial District. The source claimed that the governor said he paid Ubah for the job he did for him during his re-election campaign and he never promised him anything, therefore he is not indebted to him at all.
Ifeanyi Ubah, in an emergency meeting organized on, Friday, September 14th 2018 by a section of Nnewi political stakeholders at the Igwe’s Palace claimed that in a meeting between him, Governor Obiano, Cletus Ibeto and Victor Umeh, Governor Obiano agreed and promised to issue him the APGA ticket for Anambra South Senatorial District. Ubah claimed the agreement was reached when the Governor approached him to support, campaign and help him deliver votes in Nnewi and Anambra South during the Governor’s re-election campaign.
AnaedoOnline learnt that the meeting which was chaired by Chief Dan Ulasi (Okosisi Nnewi) was organized to bring out a consensus candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, who will contest on the platform of APGA. The meeting which had in attendance almost all major political stakeholders in Nnewi and all the Traditional Rulers, had; Igwe Nnewi, Igwe K.O.N Orizu (CON), The three Obis of Umudim, Uruagu and Nnewichi, Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue, Chief Cletus Ibeto, Chief Ajulu Uzodike, Chief Dan Ulasi, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, Dr Okey Chidolue, Sam Ben Nwosu, Dr Obi Nwosu, Chief Oseloka Osigwe, Arch Chukwuebuka Ileka, Benneth Ngonadi and many other political stakeholders.
Chief Dan Ulasi who chaired the meeting told the audience the purpose of the meeting and which was that the Governor told Nnewi people to sit down and bring out a consensus candidate for Anambra South Senatorial election and that is why they have invited them to hear the manifestoes of the aspirants and therefore endorse one of them.
A major circumstance which arose during the meeting, was when Chief Ibeto recalled how he was present in a meeting between Governor Obiano, Senator Victor Umeh and Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, in which the Governor told Ifeanyi Ubah to support him in his re-election campaign which in return will get him (Ifeanyi Ubah) his (Governor Obiano’s) support for his Senatorial ambition. Chief Ibeto then asked the people in the meeting why the Governor who supposedly had assured Ifeanyi Ubah of APGA ticket, is now asking Nnewi to bring out a consensus candidate. What then happened to the assurance earlier given to Ifeanyi Ubah? Ibeto, therefore, said there was a need to write to the Governor to know if he has reneged on his assurance of supporting Ifeanyi Ubah.
Majority of the speakers who spoke in the response of the demand made by Ibeto to write a letter to the Governor disagreed with it saying that they were not present in the meeting held between the Governor and them and therefore they should not involve Nnewi in writing the Governor. They further stated the implication of writing the Governor and that such request if granted will deny Ndi Nnewi the moral right and ground to aspire for the 2022 Governorship election since Nnewi has gotten the Senate. They told Ibeto that the people who were present at the meeting should go back and ask the Governor the question.
Some of the speakers equally noted that Nnewi should not be involved in such an agreement and that all aspirants both within and outside Nnewi should be allowed to participate in the primaries and whoever wins will have their support.
Not satisfied with the opinion of the general public, Chief Cletus Ibeto still pleaded with the stakeholders that the letter should be written to the Governor, but it should be written in such a way that it should not implicate Nnewi and deny them their right to aspire for 2022 Governorship election. Chief Barr. Oseloka Osigwe was chosen to write the letter to the Governor.
The question now on the lips of many people who were not present at the meeting is: which body or organization will now write to the Governor: Nzuko Ora Nnewi or Igwe Nnewi? The letter if written by Nzuko Ora Nnewi (the administrative head of Nnewi) will add credibility when presented to the Governor, as it will be seen that the letter is the official position of Nnewi.
However, a source confirmed to AnaedoOnline that the Publicity Secretary of Nzuko Ora Nnewi, Augustine Ikedoji has threatened to sue whoever uses the letterhead of Nzuko Ora to write to the Governor because the position of the letter is not the position of Nzuko Ora Nnewi as such issue was neither discussed at the executive meeting nor at the general floor of Nzuko Ora Nnewi.
Also if the Igwe Nnewi decides to write the Governor, will Igwe Nnewi be writing on an issue he was not privy to when the agreement was discussed or made?
A Majority of people who spoke to AnaedoOnline said it is not proper for Igwe Nnewi to interfere in an agreement that he was not part and parcel of and that agreement is binding on both parties and the parties who reached the agreement should resolve it themselves.
A legal expert who pleaded anonymity told Anaedo Online that Igwe Nnewi should be careful not to involve himself or Nnewi in a matter he was not a part of ab initio and that the people who were in the meeting should resolve it themselves.
AnaedoOnline understands from some participants in the meeting that the meeting was subtly organized to endorse Ifeanyi Ubah as Nnewi’s Representative for the Anambra South Senatorial election.
There have been expectations from Ifeanyi Ubah’s camp that yesterday’s meeting will see to the endorsement of their boss, however, the events that happened dealt a huge blow to their expectations.
There has been a strong social media war from Ifeanyi Ubah’s media handlers against Amb Bianca Ojukwu, another major contender to the APGA ticket of Anambra South Senatorial District, with Dr. Ubah’s social media handlers continually casting aspersions on the personality of Amb Bianca Ojukwu, which has brought great sympathy and support to her aspirations from well-wishers.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Igwe Nnewi and Nzuko Ora Nnewi have Okayed Nnewichi to represent Nnewi North at Anambra State House of Assembly. This decision was reached last week on Saturday, Sept 8 2018. The issue which has been a subject of controversy on whether the incumbent representative Amala Anazodo should seek re-election as adopted by an Nzuko Ora Nnewi executive motion, or if Nnewichi whose turn it was according to Nnewi rotational formula should represent Nnewi North.
A final decision was made that Nzuko Ora Nnewi should disregard its executive motion in order to allow Nnewichi take its turn and that a committee be set up to review and adopt the current rotation formula which does not allow an incumbent representative to seek for re-election.
Anaedo Online also has it in good authority that Igwe Nnewi has written to the Governor that it is the turn of Nnewichi to bring out a representative, thereby delivering a fatal blow to the ambition of Hon. Amala Anazodo who has equally purchased his expression of interest and nomination forms for the September 25th APGA primaries.
