Everyday people strive to make a living, either through business or handwork. A popular Igbo saying goes: “Egbe belu ugo belu, nke si ibe ya ebena; nku waa ya”. No matter the nature of business one ventures into, it is always best if the business does not negatively interfere with that of others.

In an area known as “Agaawan” in the community of okpuno nnewichi, it has been reported that a man identified as Nnamdi Ezewi owns a pig farm in this area where people reside.

After series of complaints from the residents of the area , our reporter decided to pay a visit to residents of the area to see things for herself , the stench in the street was unbearable . Anaedo online reporter met with a barber in the area who made some expositions on the matter at hand. The barber who simply identified himself as Okwy narrated their ordeal . He told us of how after Nnamdi refused to listen to them; they marched to the Local Government Headquarters to table the matter with the offices concerned with health. The health officials he said gave Nnamdi 2weeks to evacuate his farm to some other location which he did not do. However,  OBI of Nnewichi waded into the matter and asked the man to relocate his pig farm after three months.

According to a resident of the area who identified herself as Mrs Okafor , the 3 months given to Mr Nnamdi Nzewi elapsed on the 14th of September 2018 and from every indication , the pig farm is still very much around.

The pig farm has a plethora of effects on the people and the environment. One of the most obvious is the hazardous pollution it causes to the air. The stench common to pigs; that emanate from the farm poisoning the oxygen in the air is very deadly, especially when continuously and continually inhaled for a long period of time. As a result of this pollution, people have gone as far as leaving the area, some closing their shops etc. Even Parents have even gone to the extent of withdrawing their children from schools in the area. Nice buildings are now being vacated by the tenants as they can no longer endure.
