Deputy Governor Okeke visits some flood affected areas, promises increased intervention.

The State government has continued to keep tabs on the flood situation in the State, making more interventions.

Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke who is the Chairman of the SEMA Committee went round some areas and holding Centers to conduct further assessment with the hope of addressing noticeable shortcomings.

The team, led by the Deputy Governor commenced inspection with helicopter to Enugwu-Otu, Agulueri-Otu, where ABS lens caught, has been completely submerged beneath flooded water.

The team later flew to Aguleri, Otuocha and terminated at Central School Atani.

At Ogbaru, the Deputy Governor went to camps set up by the State government where it was discovered that mattresses, food items, among other supplies are in place.

He equally inspected the kitchen to see how things are working and the store which had limited stocks of detergent, gallons of ground nut oil, bags of rice, beans, cartons of noodles, beverages, bags of garri, cartons of tomatoes, and mosquito treated nets.

Among the holding centers visited by the team include Saint Patrick’s Parish Odekpe housing about 600 flood affected people, Saint James, Odekpe with about six hundred people and the local government headquarters holding over one thousand people, totalling over three thousand.

Deputy Governor Okeke expressed understanding of the emergency situation, promising that State government will address the much it can, especially their feeding and and general well-being during their stay at the holding centers.

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the situation is different from the ordinary, as such, persons at the should make exercise patience, assuring that State government is dedicated to the welfare of the flood affected citizenry.

While expressing optimism that the flood will recede in no distant time, he said that the National Emergency Agency, NEMA has been in the State making further assessments and giving more interventions, urging more help from well meaning individuals and organizations.

Some persons at their different homes who spoke to the ABS off Camera, lamented lack of portable water, electricity, means of livelihood, among others, calling for efforts to reach them.

At Press time, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru was said to have gone to one of the flooded areas To Help attend to woman delivered of twin male and female babies.
