The excessive flooding being experienced in most riverine communities of Anambra State is hampering the activities of the officials of the National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS ( NACA) who are conducting HIV/ AIDS tests on some selected persons as part of the federal government’s nationwide survey to determine the level of HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country.
The communities mostly affected are Okpoko, Odekpe, Obeagwe and Ogwu-Ikpele in Ogbaru local government as well as Anam communities in Anambra-West local government area of the state.
The director general ( DG) of NACA, Dr. Sani Aliyu represented by the deputy director in charge of Performance Monitoring and Resource Mobilisation at the NACA national headquarters, Abuja, Dr. Priscillia Ibekwe who was in Anambra State to monitor the progress of the survey in the state, however commended the officials conducting the exercise for their courage and sacrifices.
Addressing the officials charged with the mandate of carrying out the survey, the National AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey ( NAIIS), after being conducted round their facilities, including laboratory and store at the Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital ( COOUTH), Amaku-Awka, the NACA boss stated that the exercise when successfully completed would assist the federal government come up with appropriate plan to ensure that those living with HIV/AIDS were properly taken care of so that they would continue to live their normal lives till when they are destined to die.
Meanwhile, the NACA DG expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far in the on- going nationwide HIV/AIDS test survey saying that already 50 per cent of the project had been carried out, and, that the results had shown tremendous responses from those mapped out for the exercise in the areas already visited.

Dr. Aliyu stated that the test survey was designed to be carried out on about 168,029 persons chosen from about 88775 households cutting across the 774 local governments that make up the country to determine the exact prevalence level of the dreaded disease in the country.
