Nkwo Nnewi Market Traders Protest against “illegal” structures (Video)

Some traders in Nkwo Nnewi market earlier this morning came out en mass to protest against the plan to build new structures in the market which will lead to the loss of their present shops, specifically those situated in the F-line part of market.

 

It will be recalled that some weeks ago , Anoedo online reported on the massive protest by AGBO EDO market traders against the Leadership of the market for what they re ferred to as “fraudlent” ID CARD fee.

This morning , the traders, mostly women marched around the market vicinity again with their placards, displaying inscriptions such as: “No more structures in the market,” “No more sexual harassment by our leaders in Agbo Edo Market” and others alike.  Speaking to Anaedoonline, one of the protesters who pleaded anonymity said that the market leaders are planning to

build new structures in the market which she termed ‘illegal.’ Another protester (name withheld) assured that the traders won’t accept the relocation of their shops by the market leaders. His words; “We will not allow our wicked leaders to relocate our shops because of their selfish gains.”

In his residence, Chief Christopher Osuojukwu (Nwalupuaku), chairman of Agbo Edo United spoke to Anaedoonline saying that the protest was politically motivated by his rivals who are hell bent on frustrating his leadership. Anambra State to facilitate the building of roads and drainage system that will cut across Agbo Edo and other parts of Nkwo Nnewi.”  He concluded by saying; “This idea which should have been a welcomed development, unfortunately, is trying to be frustrated by Mr. Obi Gozie, Mr Goody Ulasi  and Mrs Martha Mbonu who are organizing the protest in other to discredit my leadership.”

He advised the affected traders to relocate their shops in other to allow the construction of the road by the state government which is still to their benefit and that of the town in general.
