The Management of Gabros International Football and other Sports Stadium, Nnewi, Anambra State has come out to state emphatically that the Stadium is not for Sale.

This declaration has become necessary following insinuations from certain quarters including a local radio station in Anambra State that the Stadium and all the adjoining parcels of land lying on Nnewi – Ozubulu Road besides Beverly Hills Hotel and Resorts have been sold.

According to the Managing Director of Gabros International Football Club, owner of Gabros International  Stadium, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, “This is blatant falsehood; there is no truth in it. It is a deliberate attempt to deceive members of the public.

The Stadium and all the adjoining parcels of land therein, are not for sale and have not been sold to anybody.”
Chukwuma recalled that a couple of years ago, he did try to sell the stadium to the CEO Capital Oil, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, but the transaction was terminated in the process.
In his words, “A few years ago, I tried selling the stadium to Ifeanyi Ubah, but while the transaction lasted, I discovered he was not ready, I had no option than to terminate the transaction. In fact, I told him that I was not selling again. It is surprising that the same person has been going about even to a local radio station in the state saying he has concluded the purchase of the stadium and all the adjoining parcels of land. This is not true, and I cannot fold my hands and watch such blatant falsehood and calculated deceit circulates and gain ground”.

Reacting to the ongoing renovation of the stadium, Chukwuma said that Ubah was misled with a strange  injunction from FCT High Court Akpo, that has since been torn to shreds by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.

“If he was properly advised, he should not have gone to court in the first place to get an injunction to restrain a man from his property. He had no reason to begin the renovation and restructuring of my stadium. He was simply misled. He was cornered and offered a strange Injunction and he taught it was a wise thing to do. As it stands today, an Appeal Court sitting at Abuja has dismissed the injunction”.

He further said, “But even more surprising is Ubah’s claim that the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Willie Obiano (Akpukuodike global) promised to give him the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the Stadium and the adjoining lands.
“How can the respected Governor promise to give him the C of O for another man’s land, one that its C of O I already have. It does not happen. Dr. Willie Obiano is well educated and he has conscience. I thank God for the Governor. I have advised Mr. Ubah to ensure that he settles with all the owners of land lying there. Most of them are very poor and aged persons. Worse still, land has a spirit of its own, how can somebody be bent on appropriating other people’s land without due process. I simply fear for Ubah.

“I was personally ashamed to hear him say that the Governor promised him C of O of a Stadium I acquired when he (Ubah) was less than 14 years of age and going as far as to a radio house to announce that he has concluded the purchase of the stadium and adjoining plots of land. In fact, if there is anybody who should know whether there was settlement or not, it is the Governor. Twice the Governor had advised him to settle owners of land there but twice he refused doing so, seeking C of O from the backyard.

“We saw enormous wisdom in the Governor, which was why I worked for him for a second term in office. He knows when to act and when not to act, and it is good for Anambra State”.
