Nonso Okafor popularly known as Smart can be best described as homegrown as he was born and bred in Odida Nnewichi, Nnewi, Anambra State.
He acquired his nursery, primary, and secondary education – all in Nnewi. However, in pursuit of higher education, he left Nnewi for the Federal Polytechnic Oko for his tertiary education where he is renowned for his great leadership skill.
Being passionate about leadership and public service, he contested and won the position of the Students Union President in the 2006/2007 academic session, and was thereafter awarded the best SUG President by the Students Union Government and the St. Agustine’s Catholic Chaplaincy of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
He was a delegate at the 2007 Youth Stakeholders Forum on the ‘Reformation of Nigeria’s Education System’ convened by the then Education Minister, Dr Oby Ezekwesili. These prior feats and achievements are proofs of his earnest interest in politics, governance, as well as education.
In recent times, Nonso Okafor driven by his interest in politics, governance, and generally in the development of the nation, has contributed immensely to different sectors to foster the growth and development of the nation. He has been recognized nationally and globally for his relentless hard work.
In 2010, he was an Awardee for 10 Most Outstanding Nigerian Youth Award by Lead Africa and International Youth Foundation, USA. He was also awarded by Green Champion as a Climate Change Advocate by United State Government.
He has worked with renowned NGO’s such as the Commonwealth, Africa Youth Leadership Programme amongst others. His feats are countless.
Nationally, Nonso Okafor has impacted visibly in the areas of Youth and Women empowerment, leadership, good governance and humanitarian services which earned him several awards and recognition.
Nonso Okafor is not just a political greenhorn or a ‘wanna-be’, he is a visionary young man who has received numerous leadership training, and has had so many leadership experiences to qualify him for public service.
