Reports from several quarters are providing vital information as to the defection plans of Dr Obinna Ngonadi from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

In an unofficial broadcast message on social media, Dr Ngonadi who lost to Nonso Okafor (Smart) in the just concluded state house of assembly primaries of the APGA refuted claims of his defection to the YPP together with Dr Ifeanyi Ubah who is seeking to pursue his senatorial ambition under the platform of the party.

According to reports, Dr Ngonadi whose ambition is said in various quarters to be backed by his billionaire father Chief Humphrey Ngonadi (Ngobros) is still in the race. A source who pleaded anonymity, claims to have been privy to a conversation in which Chief Ngonadi insisted that his son was still in the race and would seek his political fortune elsewhere.

According to a comment made by Mr J.O Nzelu on the WhatsApp platform of the Nzuko Ora, there have been reports of the father of Dr Obinna Ngonadi hijacking the party structure of the APGA in Nnewi in case of a possible defection, to ensure the victory of his son.

In a statement made by to Mr Nzelu, he said “I heard he called a meeting of APGA delegates yesterday to gradually see how many he can deceive to leave their vantage position in APGA to go into a new party. In his words yesterday, he said, “ekweghom”. He finds it difficult to come to terms to the fact that that small boy could defeat his son. They even went ahead to accuse the small boy of hijacking the delegate list from Awka. He claimed all the statutory delegates voted his son. The question is how did he know who voted his son and who did not, since it was not the option A4 system of voting? Does it mean he has a well-planned rigging strategy? Since all statutory delegates voted his son, why did he give motorcycles to 6 women leaders and left out 4 who he said voted Smart? Since all the statutory delegates voted his son, why did cry out that ward chairmen betrayed him? He said none of his ad-hoc delegates was shortlisted but there were pictures of his foot soldiers in the hall, how did they gain entrance?”

He furthermore said “I decided to take this time to drop this because as an insider to the Ngonadis, I know their plots. Their desperation on this is unparalleled. They have tried to buy over the guy’s victory but couldn’t. Now the plot is to deceive some APGA officials to join them to a new party, not to win but to act as a spoiler to the young man. Where this new party option fails, they will be inside APGA and work against the party.”

It is believed according to political calculations that with the Presidential flag bearer of the YPP Professor Kingsley Moghalu being an indigene of Nnewi, and Dr Ifeanyi Ubah a well-known philanthropist running under the platform of the party, the party will get votes from ndi Nnewi as a result of the perceived injustice mete to Dr Ubah in the senatorial primaries of the party where it is believed he was betrayed by the governor after the promise of an automatic ticket.

However, when contacted, the Anambra state Chairman of the YPP, Prince Moses Obi who spoke on phone with Anaedo Online, refused to ascertain the reports of contact made with the party by Dr Obinna Ngonadi and insisted that such reports remain exclusive until the aspirants decide to make it pronounced.
