International Girl Child Day : Anambra Deputy Governor Okeke Tasks Stakeholders On Challenge Of Early Marriage

Anambra State Government has advocated Education as the best Empowerment for the Girl Child. State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke stated this at a Sensitization program organized to mark this year’s International Girl Child Day in the State at the Government House, Awka.

The Deputy Governor Okeke called for collaborative efforts by stakeholders including Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, especially fathers in the Society, to end Early Child Marriage and protect the Girl Child.
Dr Okeke who emphasized that the best legacy parents can bequeath to their wards remains education to enable them compete globally, adding that the State government is doing everything within its powers to end early Child Marriage in the State.

While commending the Golden Girls for making the Nation, State and the girl child proud at the 2018 Tech-Novation world challenge, the Deputy  Governor noted that the girl child is important to the Society.

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor stressed the importance of celebrating the success of the Golden Girls appropriately, saying that time has gone when the concept of house
wives dominated the society, as women now make meaningful contributions for the up keep of the family.

Bishop Ezeokafor while urging other girls to imitate the Tech-Novation girls, advocated the abolition of hair plaiting and other frivolities in schools, noting that it is time consuming.

enty one local government areas of the State, said that the sensitization is important because of the increasing spate of early Child Marriage, child trafficking, abuse and denial of human Rights in the Society, emphasizing that a girl needs to be mature before marriage, and called for self development on the part of the Girl Child.
One of the Tech-Novation girls in her speech , called on the youths to think of becoming problem solvers, adding that they hope to mentor fellow girls to be like them.

The event which attracted the Girls Guild, security operatives and Youth Council of Nigeria, featured presentation of the Anambra girls who won gold at the 2018 Tech-Novation World Challenge in USA.
