Nnewi North PDP Primaries: Ejim Ucheagwu accepts outcome, continues consultations

After days of losing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Nnewi North State Constituency to Hon. Ben. Chuks Nwosu, Comrade Ejim Emmanuel Ucheagwu who was favoured to pick the ticket of the party before the primaries have reacted to the outcome of the PDP Primaries in Nnewi North.

In his press release yesterday 12th October, the aspirant accepted the outcome of the PDP primaries despite admitting some irregularities. He however urged his teaming supporters to remain calm and hopeful as he continues  his consultations. Full excerpt of the press release below;

I wish to use this medium to expresses my sincere gratitude to the Almighty God, my family, friends, supporters, well wishers especially the Leadership and Members of Nnewi Youth Forum, Nnewi Young Patriots, Grassroot Initiative for Effective Representation(GIER) and the members of the People’s Democratic Party PDP) for their overwhelming support during my campaign to pick the ticket of my party to represent my people (Nnewi North) in Anambra State House of Assembly.

I am indeed humbled by the love and acceptance I got from the length and breadth of Nnewi during my campaign tour. Indeed, I am satisfied that we saw to the end of the completion of the first phase of our journey in my quest to represent my people which was born out of my passion for service.

I contested for the ticket of my party, PDP, with a deep conviction that i embody the finesse and psychic disposition required of people desirous to be representatives of their people. My quest to represent Nnewi North in the Anambra State House of Assembly was far removed from pursuit of immediate gratification, rather I planned to use my experience, knowledge and intelligence to perform the three cardinal duties of a representative which are Legislate, Appropriate and Oversight and to also bring to the attention of the State government, the aspirations, needs and challenges of my people.

During the course of my campaign for the ticket of our party, we experienced a lot of challenges especially with the Nigerian mode of politics, yet we believed and we dared. We closed our eyes to these challenges, based on our knowledge of the fact that nothing good comes easy.
At this juncture, it is pertinent that I admit that during the build-up to the PDP primaries, i believed that competence, popularity and acceptability should be the deciding factors in the selection of the PDP House of Assembly candidate, and as such, due to the fact that some of the aspirants met all these criteria, I also believed that a level-playing field ought to be provided for all the aspirants to vie for the ticket of the PDP, unfortunately, that seemed not to be the case. This I intend to elaborate on my subsequent releases.

But in all, i hold my head high; high because we did not win the primaries due to lack of ideas or lack of structure but due to those narratives that we are working very hard to change.

Finally, it is important that i inform all my supporters and well wishers , that we have taken few days off for thorough soul searching while watching political developments as they unfolds. The coming days will be very critical in our quest to change the narratives as it concerns the representation of Nnewi in the Anambra State House of Assembly and 2019 elections . As we continue and intensify our consultations, I urge all my supporters and well wishers to remain calm and hopeful. It is not over yet.
