AWKA RESIDENTS URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ROTARY SPONSORED FREE MEDICARE

Residents of Awka and environs have been urged to take part in the 2018 edition of the free medical mission sponsored by the Rotary Club.

The medical team from India, who arrived the state for the 2018 Free Medical Mission of the Rotary International District 9142 has commenced work in earnest in Awka, the state capital.

The team led by Dr. Jorson Fernandez, the past District Governor of Rotary International, India, started work yesterday at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka after a courtesy call on the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. Basil Nwankwo.

The courtesy call had in attendance all the twenty members of the Indian Medical team, as well as the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9142, Dr. Emma Ude-Akpeh, among others.

The medical team took time to explain their areas of specializations to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, and how they intend to work and achieve desired results in a space of ten days they will spend in the state.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. Nwankwo, who gave a comprehensive analysis of the hospital to them, commended the team for their humanitarian gesture and promised that the hospital would work in synergy with them to achieve greater results.

The Governor, Rotary International, District 9142, Dr. Emma Ude-Akpeh, while speaking to ABS, appealed on the residents of the state to avail themselves of the opportunity and benefit from the exercise.

The Indian medical team, after administering polio vaccines on children in the hospital to commemorate 2018 World Polio Day, equally took time to interface with health professionals in different departments of the teaching hospital.

They also visited patients in their different wards as well as embarked on counseling.

The team donated a plasma television to the hospital and equally decorated the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Nwankwo and other senior staff of the hospital.
