The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike.
The strike is to protest what they call poor funding of Nigerian public universities.
Led by Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi as its President declared the strike at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, (FUTA) in Ondo State.
The governing body listed the reasons for their action to include:
1. Failure on the side of government to honour the memorandum of action signed between the union and the federal government in 2017
STRIKE: FG SPEAKS ON RESOLUTIONS MADE WITH ASUU,ASUP
2. Renegotiation with ASUU which the government intentionally ignored with impunity.
Consequently, all academic staff of universities were directed to withdraw their services immediately.
