NUJ URGED TO CHECK EXCESSES OF ONLINE PUBLISHERS

The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, has been urged to check the excesses of online publishers in the country.

A former Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, who made the case for objective and neutral reportage by journalists said its to avoid heating up the polity.

He called on the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, to put machinery in motion to regulate the activities of some of its members, who sometimes, use the social media negatively, pointing out that unrestrained abuse of the online media was capable of creating avoidable panic, bitterness and disunity in the society.

Obidigwe made this call in Awka
where he chaired the 2018 Press Week and Award Ceremony of the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

Chief Obidigwe, who is the House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, equally observed that the Nigerian media have a crucial role to play in the success or otherwise of the 2019 general elections.

He, however, gave kudos to the Anambra Council of the NUJ for what he described as the mutually beneficial relationship between its members and the Obiano administration.
