Christmas: POLICE READ RIOT ACT TO ANAMBRA YOUTHS

The Anambra State Police Command, under the state Commissioner of Police, Garba Baba Umar, has warned youths in Anambra State to conduct themselves with decorum during the coming Christmas and New Year seasons, so that the festivals, like previous ones, would be conducted peacefully in the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, the command warned that the use of Knock-outs, firecrackers and other forms of fireworks in the state constitute serious security risk capable of misleading security personnel on apparent danger of gunshots, as well as engender fear in the minds of the peace-loving citizens; and therefore, will not be tolerated.

The Command advised parents and guardians to admonish their children and wards against purchasing and using knockouts as the law governing the sales, purchase and use of fireworks is still in force.

The Command equally enjoined residents of the state and visitors alike to refrain from unauthorized use of sirens, tinted glasses and covering of vehicles plate numbers; advising groups or persons desiring to commit the above-stated offences to desist forthwith as anyone arrested would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Command said it will work in collaboration with other sister agencies to put in places robust crime prevention strategies such as visibility policing, foot and vehicular patrols, including joint stop and search operations, constant raids on criminal hideouts and traffic decongestion, so that the objective of achieving a hitch-free Christmas and New Year in Anambra State will be achieved.

Meanwhile, the CP, Garba Baba Umar, implores Anambrarians, especially the Christian population, to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ by propagating peace, demonstrating love and promoting harmonious coexistence amongst fellow citizens irrespective of religious affiliations.
