ANAMBRA GOVT TO OPEN UMUEJE OIL RIGS BRIDGE SOON

The Anambra State government has announced that the bridge along the Umueje Oil Rig Road will be opened for use in the next six weeks.

The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, announced this shortly after inspecting quality and pace of work on the road.


The road which started from Umueje will terminate at Orient Petroleum in Aguleri-Otu, Anambra East Council area.

According to him, construction work on the road is at the earthwork level, while embarkment is ongoing at the bridge which has been completed.

Speaking after inspecting work on the road alongside the Permanent Secretary and other Directors in the Ministry, Engineer Ifejiofor
expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far, commending the contractor handling the project for the pace and quality of work.

Engineer Ifejiofor, who said that work has commenced on various road projects across the state noted that now that the rains have gone, work will go on continuously as Governor Obiano directed that there will be no holiday for anyone.

The Commissioner later proceeded to the forty two kilometer Aguleri-Uno -Aguleri -Otu oil rig road where it was observed that eight
kilometers of the road has been asphalted, and earthwork completed up to the oil rig.

At the site, Engineer Ifejiofor, who expressed happiness that the work is progressing, regretted that the contractor has gone for break against the directive by the governor, but expressed confidence that the project is being handled by one of the best hands in road construction.


He added that the road stood under water for over two months without crack, and said that it goes a long way to confirm that the job was
done with quality materials that would stand the test of time.

Also at the over five kilometers Iyiora Oil Rig Road, earthwork was on going with massive presence of workers seen at the site.

Engineer Ifejiofor thanked the contractor for not cutting corners, as he said that the type of sand he is using is the best for the terrain.
