UNDERSTANDING NONSO SMART OKAFOR LEGISLATIVE AGENDA FOR NNEWI.

Nnewi the second largest city in Anambra State, and the industrial and commercial hub in Anambra State is a one local government State constituency. This constituency which is highly populated by both indigenes and Non-indigenes have four quarters, Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi.

Due to the commercial and industrial nature of the town, Nnewi is one of the towns that drive the economic prosperity of Anambra State. Through taxes, Nnewi generates a lot of revenue for Anambra State government.

However, despite the progress the town has made, Nnewi is currently being faced with many problems and challenges which is associated with any developing city. Top on the chart is the issue of dilapidated road infrastructure, water supply, lack of health centres, erosion crisis, waste management challenge, clashes between motorcycle rides and the traffic Wardens, power supply for industrial clusters and markets in the town, SME issues, empowerment for youths and the rest.

While it is obvious that this is the responsibility of both the Executive arm of Federal and most especially the State government, the legislators representing the town both at the Federal and State level have a responsibility of continually drawing the attention of the government to address these issues and also facilitating their implementation.

For the State House Of Assembly seat, Nonso Smart Okafor, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Nnewi North State Constituency, as one who has a clear understanding of legislative duties, has designed a legislative agenda to specifically tackle major developmental and socio-economic problems confronting his constituents and Anambra State at large.

Nonso Smart Okafor* deep knowledge of every nooks and cranny of Nnewi have brought him to an understanding that the realities predate that there is the urgent need for the response to the needs and aspirations of our people. He intends to strategically use his legislative powers and the cordial relationship he has with the current government to tackle those challenges confronting Ndi Nnewi.

The legislative responsibility will be to ensure that Nnewi receives qualitative representation and receives a fair share of the dividends of democracy through legislation, representation and oversight.

The legislative agenda will be anchored on initiating policies, sponsoring and supporting bills and motions that will propel the implementation of projects, laws and policies.

His five (5) feedback mechanism which is a quarterly town meeting, constituency office, attending Nzuko-Ora Nnewi meeting, constituency call centre and the media will be effectively and efficiently used to give an account of stewardship, evaluation and interaction with the constituency.
The constituency project fund will be used for economic empowerment schemes, educational support, health care, infrastructure and the rest.

This agenda which is built on total faith in God, engagement with the people, the honesty of the candidate and a strong purpose to make a difference is a movement for every true progressive.

This legislative agenda will put Nnewi on a pedestal of development in all strata of the socioeconomic life of the town.
