ANAMBRA NUJ ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP

The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, has elected a new set of officers, who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.

The new officers were elected and inaugurated on Thursday, January 17, at the Council Secretariat in Awka, the state capital.

The newly inaugurated executive members were elected unopposed; except the office of the treasurer which was contested between Comrade Beatrice Onuchukwu of the Correspondents Chapel and Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu of the Fides Chapel.

The newly inaugurated officers include Emma Ifesinachi, Chairman; Francis Ekpone, Vice Chairman; Emma Uduagha, General Secretary; Aloysius Ofordile, Assistant Secretary; Ogemdi Ozoemena, Financial Secretary; Abuchi Onwumelu, Treasurer; and Okechukwu Onuegbu, Auditor.

While swearing-in the seven-man exco, Comrade Petrus Obi, Vice Chairman of the NUJ in charge of the Zone C (South East), praised the Anambra State Council for a successful election and inauguration. He tasked council members to lend their support to the new team, while also urging the new exco not to allow their personal interest to override the collective interest of the union.

Speaking on behalf of the new officers, the chairman, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, pledged that the new executive will sustain the tempo of good leadership and also uphold the integrity of the union by eliminating quackery and raising the image of the profession in Anambra.

In his own remark, chairman of credentials committee for the Anambra NUJ election, Okey Maduforo, praised the Council for a successful transition; and also commended his committee for adhering to the constitution of NUJ in discharging its duties.
