ELECTIONS WILL HOLD SATURDAY, INEC ASSURES NIGERIANS

Indications from INEC suggest that the rescheduled elections may finally hold on Saturday, 23rd February.

At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, INEC Chair, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave an update of INEC’S activities and state of preparedness for the polls.

He said, “As at 4 p.m. on Monday, all issues related to the delivery of materials were identified and virtually addressed. Ballot papers, result sheets, and non-sensitive materials are now in locations across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

“We have achieved 95 percent configuration of the 180,000 card readers and this process is going to be completed on Wednesday morning (today), one day ahead of schedule.

“Personnel and materials must arrive at polling units latest 7 am on Saturday and the opening of the poll will take place by 8 am on Saturday”.

He further dismissed the rumor making the rounds that some commissioners of INEC were arrested by security agencies.

“No Commissioner in the commission was picked up by any security agency, no house of any commissioner of INEC was raided; no commissioner of INEC has been picked up by security agencies. Similarly, no six directors were picked up by any security agency.”

He assured of the Commission’s commitment to deliver free and fair elections in line with its mandate.
