Polls: APGA CHIEFTAIN CHIDES  BUHARI’S SHOOT AT SIGHT ORDER ON BALLOT BOX SNACHERS

A member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has criticised President Mohammadu Buhari over his comments during APC Caucus meeting where he said that anybody caught snatching ballot box during the

Presidential and National Assembly elections will be shot instantly.

Ezeonwuka, who also claims being the spiritual leader of the Igbo nation,  noted that the shoot at sight directive as issued by Buhari is jungle justice which, according to him, has no place in the law of nature and the spirits; and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as enshrined in the nation’s Constitution.

Speaking to newsmen at his office in Oba, Idemili North LGA, Ezeonwuka stressed that he would not support “an act of jungle justice which has no backing of law and spirit to take place in Igbo land”; saying that anybody found to be violating the law or process of election has to be dealt with in accordance with the law guiding the land and the electoral process.

While attributing the shoot at sight order to President Buhari’s hard-line stance against corruption and lawlessness, Ezeonwuka stressed the need for Nigerians, particularly politicians standing for elective positions, and their supporters, to understand the order as a strong warning and measures against those who might have decided to go for the election on do or die note and may be planning to snatch ballot boxes.

“Election is not a do or die affair, it is either you win or you loss” he explained, adding “While I reject the order completely, I wish to advice Nigerians and the law enforcement agencies in particular, to have better understanding of the order, and take it as ambiguous statement meant to be preventive measures against politicians or anybody or group with the intention and plan to snatch ballot boxes during the elections on Saturday.

He advised politicians, political parties and their supporters, especially the youths, who are often used as thugs, to avoid any act capable to jeopardizing the process.

He also charged community leaders, town unions and traditional rulers in all parts of the country to collaborate with law enforcements agents to ensure the safety of INEC officials and Youth Copers working in their domains.
