WE’VE NOT ENDORSED ANY CANDIDATE FOR STATE ASSEMBLY – NNEWI YOUTH FORUM
The Nnewi Youth Forum (NYF), has released a statement disassociating itself from a document circulating around town that the group has endorsed a particular candidate for the position of Nnewi North House of Assembly seat.
In a press statement released Friday, March 1, 2019, by the Secretary of the organization, Barr. Donatus Obumneme, the group said the Nnewi Youth Forum is apolitical, and that all the candidates contesting for the position of the Nnewi North House of Assembly are members of the Forum; and therefore, they will not take sides.
The statement reads in part:
“There is a political propaganda being read on radio stations and at campaign rallies that the Nnewi Youth Forum has endorsed a particular candidate from a particular party. We are stating it categorically that Nnewi Youth Forum, as a body, did not endorse or adopt or intend to adopt any candidate as our choice in the forth coming House of Assembly elections.
“The candidates who, are vying for the position, are all Nnewi indigenes and our members; some of them have held one position or the other in Nnewi Youth Forum. We are apolitical by nature and the NYF constitution does not give us the right to endorse a candidate.”
Barr. Obumneme said the group has not discussed anything about endorsing a candidate.
He said the news making the round is that some of their members went to see a patron of NYF who won a senatorial position to congratulate him, and that was where they were given a document to sign and write their names.
The group advised ndi Nnewi, both indigenes and non-indigenes, to go out and vote the candidate of their choice.
“We are not a political group to endorse any Candidate”, the group said in the statement.
The press conference was attended by only members of the executive of the NYF, Barr. Donatus Obumneme (the Secretary General), Evang. Okafoagu (Financial secretary), and Christian Ubazuonu (Vice President NYF).
The Nnewi Youth Forum(NYF) is an association that comprises of all the youths from the four quarters of Nnewi (Otolo, Umudim, Uruagu and Nnewichi). Every quarter is represented in the executives at least two people from each quarter.
