MARCH 9 ELECTION: DON’T TOE OPPOSITION PATH, EZEONWUKA ADVISES NDIGBO

Ahead of the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Nigeria coming on Saturday, March 9, the Spiritual Leader of the Igbo nation, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, (Ogilisi Igbo), has advised Ndigbo nationwide to emulate Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to pitch their tents with governorship candidates of the ruling political parties in their respective sates of residence; and avoid toeing the path of opposition just as Governor Obiano supported President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the candidate of the ruling party during the Presidential election in the country, February 23.

He specifically mandated Ndigbo in Lagos and Kano States to support the governorship candidates of the party in power in the states, All Progressive Congress (APC), in the governorship race; telling them to support Sanwo-Olu, the governorship candidate of APC in Lagos; and Umar Ganduje, also of APC in Kano.

He also called on Ndigbo in South South States, mostly Rivers State, to support the reelection of the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike of the PDP.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday polls, Chief Ezeonwuka, who is a member of the Board of Trustees BoT of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, said that what Ndigbo need mostly from the 2019 polls is sustenance and progress; thus, they should avoid politics of hatred and confrontation in strategic points to be able to move forward, noting that taking side with opposition where Ndigbo have huge stake could boomerang because the chances of breaking through opposition roots are very slim.

He added “what we need as Ndigbo in this general election is to derive strength for sustenance and progress and I don’t see us getting that from the side of the oppositions. In most cases, it is not easy to garner the strength required to topple the incumbency at the polls. More so, opposition is associated with negative elements like hatred and confrontation which is unhealthy and unfavorable to us.”

He also called on non indigenes in Anambra State to identify with the candidates of APGA as the ruling party in the state come Saturday, March 9, pointing out that the present administration of APGA is in a better position to sustain the progress which Obiano has made in most critical areas like security, agriculture, road projects, prompt payment of workers and community development projects amongst others, coupled with the peaceful atmosphere of life and business in the state.
