ENUGU APC ASKS INEC TO POSTPONE SATURDAY POLLS

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called for the postponement of the Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

INEC RULES OUT SABOTAGE

The chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, made the call on Thursday while addressing newsmen on the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which set aside the judgement of Justice I. Ekwo of the Federal High Court 5 that sacked Senator Ayogu Eze as its governorship candidate and asked INEC to recognise George Ogara instead.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had on Tuesday removed the name of Senator Eze in the original list of the candidates contesting in the governorship poll in Enugu in its website and left the APC space blank.

A source from the INEC said, “Upon this disobedience to the lawful court order that the INEC decided to expunge the name of Senator Eze as the candidate of the APC and left its space in the list blank.”

But the state chairman of the party, who addressed journalists at the residence of Senator Eze, led a crowd of the APC supporters to the INEC office in Enugu, demanding that Senator Eze be relisted in the INEC website and the election postponed to allow the party to campaign.

He described the removal of Eze in the INEC list of candidates as share wickedness meant to undermine the chances of the party at the election.

Addressing newsmen earlier, Senator Eze had described the Federal High Court judgment as a procured judgment aimed to dislodge the party in Enugu State.

“It is ungodly for the INEC to have removed my name when it is aware that the said judgment had been appealed against,” he said.
