YPP WILL CHALLENGE SMART OKAFOR’S VICTORY IN COURT -Ifeanyi Ubah

Oil Mogul, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who is the senator elect for Anambra South senatorial district has said that the Nnewi North State Constituency election held on Saturday, March 9, which produced Comrade Peter Nonso Okafor, aka Smart, of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, as winner was marred by irregularities, thus, will not stand the test of time.

Ubah, who won his election under the platform of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, said his party, which also fielded Dr. Obinna Ngonadi as candidate for the state assembly election in Nnewi North will approach the court to challenge the process that produced the APGA candidate as winner.

Speaking in an audience participation program in the AUTHORITY RADIO, Nnewi, on Sunday, Ubah said: “The APGA candidate, Smart, did not win the election; he was only leading in the election, and the exercise is inconclusive.

“Eight Polling Units were cancelled in the election. The 8 units has about 6,000 registered voters; so, you don’t celebrate when you have mere 843 votes lead.

“There should be re-run at the units cancelled to determine the real winner, because, what happened on Saturday was not right in the eyes of the constitution. This is because, Nnewichi Ward 1, which is Ngonadi’s stronghold was cancelled. My Polling Unit in Otolo was also cancelled.”

Ubah said that he would go out of his way to make sure that there is a re-run in the areas cancelled, so that real winner will emerge.

In a swift reaction, the chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Hon. Chukwudi Orizu, described Ubah’s claims as laughable.

He asked those who are politically enlightened to help Ifeanyi Ubah understand when a re-run is necessary in an electoral process.

According to Orizu, results were cancelled in the areas mentioned because of glaring irregularities in which case, there will be no re-run of any kind.

He said that INEC schedules a re-run when an election cannot hold or is stopped midway by concerned authorities for one reason or the order.

Orizu said that during the election of February 23, which Ifeanyi Ubah participated, some wards and polling units were cancelled in Orumba North and South as well as parts of Aguata for alleged irregularities, yet, Ubah was declared winner and he did not protest.

“APGA candidate has won the election here as declared by INEC; QED. The election was not declared inconclusive as to warrant any rerun; so, somebody going to a radio station to talk about a re-run cannot change the narrative”, Orizu declared.
