WORLD BANK VISITS OBIOFIA NNEWICHI EROSION SITE

The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) today 25th of March 2019, led the representatives from World Bank to the Obiafia Nnewichi erosion site in a bid to ascertain the level of work that has been done on the erosion eradication project.


Speaking to Anaedoonline.com, Mr. Salisu Dahero, the National Project Coordinator NEWMAP intimated us on the modus operandi of NEWMAP, he said, “we are working on the site. One major strategy that NEWMAP deploys is to do a routine implementation supervision mission where we come with everybody; our set-up engineers, safeguard team and experts who will identify problems and proffer solutions.”

Speaking on the state of the project so far , Mr Salisu said ,” As far as this project is concerned, there is a timeline for this project which is 24months, there are design issues which has been resolved to fast track the pace at which the project is being implemented.”

He continued, “as at now , only 15% of the project has been done and we feel this should be higher than this because rainy season is fast approaching and we don’t want the project to be affected by the rain.”

Also Speaking to Anaedoonline.com, Nneka Okereke, a World Bank Social Development specialist who was present at the erosion site opined that her major concern is the safety of lives and property of people living around the erosion site.

Mr. Ivenso Michael, NEWMAP project coordinator for Anambra State was also present at the erosion site with other NEWMAP project team.
