Family is referred to as a group of people related either by consanguinity, marriage or a combination of any of the above which makes up a society.

15th of May is a day set aside annually to celebrate the international day of families.

The international family day aims at promoting the awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families worldwide. The international day of families is a global observation by the international community to celebrate the importance of families and their role in the growth and development of society.

To mark this year’s International Family Day, range of events and programs are organized at international, national, state and local levels which includes: seminars and policy discussions, exhibition, and awareness of the year’s theme celebration, educational sessions for children and young people and campaign to launch and support the family unit.

Family is a center of the society, people and culture all around the globe. Hence, the celebration of families is beyond the individuals that make up one family, but a celebration of culture and diversity.

The Theme of this Year’s International Family Day Celebration is “Families and Climate Action”.
