Nnewi Bar Owner Exposes A Factor That Kills Bar Businesses In Nnewi
In urbanized cities in Nigeria, bars, lounges and nightclubs are symbolic features that are prevalent in their social lives.
Some Bar Owners in Nnewi have lamented the toll lack of Nightlife in Nnewi is taking on their businesses, unlike cities like Awka and Onitsha, saying that it’s limiting their businesses.
They made this known to anaedoonline.ng when we paid them unofficial visit.
Emeka, a bar owner in Umudim Nnewi said that security operatives play a huge role in stifling nightlife in Nnewi, he also advised that they should stop harassing Nnewi residents who come home late.

Speaking Further, Emeka said “How do you expect Nnewi to be a real City if people start rushing home once its 8pm for fear of being harassed by Local vigilante or SARS?
My Brother, to be honest with you, it is harming our business. Many people want to go to the bar after a long day, but they can’t, that’s why they run to Owerri and Asaba every weekend”
However, Emeka admitted that the security operatives were needed in order to make people feel secure, but he urged them to stop harassing those they are supposed to be protecting.
Another Bar owner who spoke to us anonymity, said that lack of Nightlife has made Nnewi loose money to cities that have an active night life like Owerri and Awka.
However, Anaedoonline.com spoke with Nnewi resident, who is Doctor, to find out his opinion on Lack of nightlife in Nnewi, he was of opinion that Nnewi was not structured for an active nightlife.
“Nnewi is majorly a commercial City, what we majorly do here is buying and selling, you don’t expect a man who needs to rush to his shop tomorrow to be outside by 1 am, it won’t work. And you don’t expect someone who will be at Innoson Factory the next day to stay out late, instead of resting”

The Doctor, however, admitted to anaedoonline.ng that he spends most of his weekends at Awka saying that Nnewi is too boring for him.
We have also observed that nightlife is gradually creeping into areas where streets are stationed and active in the Night.
