Who Is Afraid Of Nollywood In Nnewi?

Nollywood describes the Nigerian film industry, which is believed to have been pioneered by Igbo artistes in the early 2000s. It currently contributes a large chunk of Nigeria’s internally generated revenue and also arguably the world second largest film industry after Hollywood.

In Nnewi, anaedoonline.ng has observed that a lot of young Nnewi residents have taken a passion for the Nigerian film industry, especially the artistic ones, which was not so previously when every young Nnewi resident either goes to learn a trade or goes to school to be able to get a white-collar job after graduation.

MC Steve, a young comedian who was previously producing amateur comedy skits with a mobile phone has now evolved to shooting low budget films, which indicates growth in the film industry here in Nnewi.

“I just decided to go into film production because I believe I have the passion for that, I believe I could offer more than comedy skits”. I believe we can create job opportunities for everyone within Nnewi.

MC Steve was also of the opinion that the Nigerian film industry has a lot of promises for young artistes resident in Nnewi.

“Most of the cast and crew members I used for my films are resident in Nnewi. What it takes to make it here is the passion and self-belief” He Said.

Vikky and Nwa carpenter, two new based comedians who like Mc Steve were specialized in comedy skits, anaedoonline.ng came across the duo on a film set at Amuko Junctions in Nnewichi Nnewi Last week.

From our investigation, we discovered that this particular shoot, which featured some popular faces in Nollywood was owned by the duo.

Obyno, an award-winning film producer from Uruguay Nnewi was also of the opinion that there is a lot of untapped talents in Nnewi.
“My brother, we have a lot of Nollywood materials in Nnewi, they just need exposure and encouragement”.

Recall that, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Nnewi North coordinator, Mr Prince Amaechi previously told anaedoonline.ng that the bane of Nnewi Film industry growth is financed while appealing to investors to pay closer attention to the Nnewi Film industry.
“Nnewi Film Industry is an untapped Goldmine,” He said.

However, anaedoonline.ng has observed that a lot of nationally and globally recognized artists who are indigenous of nevi are yet to identify with the film industry in Nnewi.
