 Abia State Teachers Embark on Indefinite Strike

The leaders of the teachers union in Abia on Monday announced and indefinite, crippling academic activities in the schools, following the backlog of salaries owed to primary and secondary school teachers in Abia State.

Grace Amaka Uwaekwe, a Facebook user had lately threatened to commit suicide if ASUBEB and SEMB are not paid.

Her post reads; “I will commit suicide on Monday if ASUBEB & SEMB are not paid by this weekend, I better die before Education dies in Abia.”

Abia State Universal Basic Education Board and State Education Management Board are among the parastatals being owed salaries in the state.

It was gathered that the Abia State Government is making frantic effort to get the teachers back to the classroom and also resolve the industrial action.
