By Emeka Ginigeme

Chairman of Fairly Used and New Motorcycle Dealers Association (FUNMDA) Nkwo Nnewi, Mr. Chukwueloka Ubajekwe has appealed to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano to lift the ban on motorcycles in Onitsha.

Mr. Chukwueloka Ubajekwe while speaking exclusively to anaedoonline.ng on Wednesday 5th of June, 2019, appealed to the Governor of Anambra state to lift the ban on motorcycles while introducing some restrictions on motocycle usage in order to checkmate excesses that previously necessitated the ban of motorcycles in Onitsha.

Speaking , he said, “the ban of motorcycles was made to reduce crime rate in Onitsha, as most victims complained that motorcycles were used to carry out all sorts of crime in Onitsha. But after the ban by the state government, I found out that those crimes still persist in Onitsha till date”.

Mr. Chukwueloka Ubajekwe also spoke on how revisiting the ban on motorcycles in Onitsha will reduce joblessness amongst youths and create job opportunities.

Continuing , he said, “due to the ban on motorcycles in Onitsha, so many fairly used and new motorcycle dealers have been out of business, leaving so many of them idle and jobless. Knowing that joblessness and idleness can contribute to youths being a menace to society. Revisiting this ban will do a lot of good in Onitsha by creating job opportunities and reduction in the rate of crime”.

However, Mr. Chukwueloka Ubajekwe was of the opinion that certain restriction or rules can be put down by the state government to guide and checkmate motorcycle users in onitsha.
