Plans To Impose New Nnewi Anglican Bishop Exposed As Lobbying Intensifies.

As the 3rd July, 2019 election/selection of the New Nnewi Anglican Bishop draws closer, reports reaching Anaedoonline, has indicated that selection of the New Bishop which should have been a thing of the Spirit has allegedly become more physical.

It’s unfortunate that the election/selection of the New Bishop, which the House of Bishops reserves the right to decide who becomes the Bishop among those nominated, has been allegedly hijacked by Oligarchs.

It will be recalled that last month, Anaedoonline made a publication about the possible clergies, who are interested or being considered for the very important post.

However, Anaedoonline has reliably gathered that there appears to be a clear attempt by very few privileged individuals in the town, who are deploying all arsenals available to impose a Bishop in Nnewi Anglican Diocese.

According to a source in Nnewi Diocese, who does not want his name mentioned, two prominent Nnewi personalities are currently engineering the imposition, it was learnt that they have began tour of all Anglican Archbishops in Church of Nigeria, in their different Dioceses, to lobby for their preferred candidate.

It was alleged that the latest of the visit was that of Enugu Province, in which they visited a respected Archbishop. It has also been reported that their preferred candidate is an Archdeacon in one of the Archdeaconries in Nnewi town, who is not an indigene of Nnewi Diocese.

According to a background check on the Archdeacon, it was discovered that he has no relative experience or qualities to become a Bishop of a sensitive Diocese like Nnewi, also it was discovered that he rose to the position of an Archdeacon, only being a Vicar of one Church.

Speaking to Anaedoonline, one of the very strong personalities of the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi, who was very concerned about the development said,

“I am very worried on what is about to play out in our beloved Diocese, the election of the New Bishop of Nnewi has gone political, if we are not careful, the coming days will be dark for our Diocese.”

“As I speak with you, a particular Archdeacon in this Diocese has been appointed by two prominent members of our Diocese, they have taken him to some stakeholders in Nnewi, going from one Archbishop to another seeking for support. These two men are the people that have decided to make Nnewi Diocese as part of their business conglomerate. The two of them are always chairman or supervisor of all the projects in this Diocese in the last twenty years. Now, they have appointed an Archdeacon for the post of the Bishop of this Diocese, so that they can continue their looting, but we have to stop them”

When asked, who are the “we”? he answered ,

“We are currently mobilizing men and women of integrity who are of Anglican faith in Nnewi Diocese to ensure that we resist them. The person they want to impose on this Diocese as a Bishop is incompetent, as a matter of fact, he is not supposed to be an Anglican Clergy by now, because we have evidence of how he violated one of his canonical vows two years ago. He was covered up. We will expose it if they dare succeed. They are aware of it and want to use it to hoodwink the Archdeacon, so that he can be dancing to their whims and caprices when he is elected.”

“We need a Bishop that has the fear of God , not a Bishop that will fear men. If possible, we need an indigenous Bishop who truly understands what it means to serve God” he concluded.

Speaking about the ongoing development, a prominent member of the Diocese, who is not comfortable about the development said,

“Ordinarily, we should not be discussing this but we have to speak out before it becomes dark. It will be an insult to our common sensibilities and unfair to our Diocese if we allow the imposition of a Bishop in Nnewi Diocese. The house of Bishop should be allowed to prayerfully consider and choose a Bishop for Nnewi. Our Diocese needs revival, we need reforms, we want Evangelism to be revived, we want the yearly Assessment given to churches to reduce, we want Diocesan projects that have direct impact in the lives of people and not the building of white elephant projects. We need a dynamic Bishop, who understands administration and is ready to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ the paramount in Nnewi Diocese. Anything short of this will be resisted”

“I am pleading with the house of Bishops to reject any candidate that does have the call of a Bishop. I also advise the Archdeacons lobbying to be elected, to stop this ugly practice and face their call”

At the time of writing, it was reported that there is a growing tension among the laity of the Diocese over the planned imposition.
