Igbo Youths Are Not Happy With CEO, Iroko Tv, See Reason!

The CEO and Founder of Iroko Tv have infuriated a lot of Igbo youths after he said declared he and the members of his family have no interest in learning the Igbo language.
The CEO, Mr. Jason Njoku made this declaration on Twitter.

”My children are currently learning French. Mandarin will be up next. I intend for them to develop this over the next ten years. They can’t speak Igbo (neither can i). It’s okay. The world won’t shake from its foundations” he tweeted.

This statement, however, did not go down well with the Igbo community on twitter, many of them had one or two angry comments to make in response.

Oge said,” The money that you could have used to hire Igbo language teachers to teach you and your kid’s Igbo language, you are using it to employ French and   Mandarin teachers, LOL.

The Chinese raised in France speak Chinese and French”

Mr. Jamiu Idowu Esho, whose display name indicates that he’s not of the Igbo ethnic group, said,” Does that make them Chinese or French? They will remain Igbo. Everyone has a choice, yours is to forget the heritage of your forebearers. It’s okay.”

Nkem4eva said,” Absolutely nothing wrong with Igbo being in the mix. If the Chinese had abandoned Manderin, your Children wouldn’t be learning it now. cheers”

Ogbako Umu Igbo, tweeted,” Dear Jason, It’s okay to teach your children whatever language you want, however, the essence of identifying first with one’s heritage through language can’t be over-emphasized, it plays a vital role in giving kids a sense of belonging especially diasporans. #Igboamaka

Some Nigerians came in Mr. Jason’s defense, they were of the opinion that anybody has the right to raise his or her kids any way he or she wishes to.

@manmustwack tweeted,” I saw Jason Njuoku’s tweet yesterday and knew it will cause a ruckus. A while ago, I’d have been cursing him too, but there are too many reasons why it makes no sense to curse him.
1) Raise your kids how you want
2) The economic value of your language”

Mr Wole also said,” In reference to Jason Njoku’s tweet, truth is if you are chasing an economic edge for your kids, speaking a Nigerian Language doesn’t offer much at the moment.”
