Governor Obiano Gives Financial Grant To School (Photos)

-Cautions on Church Discrimination.

As part of his administration’s agenda of improving the standard of schools in Anambra State, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, has doled out three hundred million Naira to Anglican Missions Schools in Anambra State.

Governor Obiano who was at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Nkwo Nnewi, today, 7th August, 2019, also frowned against discrimination among denominations.

Welcoming the Governor, His Grace, The Most Rev. Prof. G.I.N. Okpala, JP. OON., the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese who also doubles as the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, Anglican Communion, appericiated the governor’s efforts towards improving education in Anambra State. He praised the governor for the money which he said will go a long way in improving the infrastructure and quality of education in the State.

Speaking, Bishop Okpala said, “The governor is here to support mission schools in the Anglican communion and it is not the first time he is doing it, he has done it in the past, we expect that the government will give us more money to keep up the good work going on. For every penny given to us, we can account for it and the schools under us have done well”.

He spoke on the security in the state and commended the government in their efforts to sanitize the state.

Prof. Lady Kate Omenugha commissioner for basic education, also addressed the crowd and thanked the church for their efforts in caring for the schools. But she also recommended that they pay more attention to the schools in the riverine area, especially in Anambra west. She explained that the schools in places like Okuzu, Nteje, Ogbunike, and other places are in a bad state.

The governor in his address started by clearing the misconception on the figure given to the different denominations. He said the catholics have more schools under them which is why they get more and the pentecostal does not get any money because the schools are owned by the individuals who own the church, but when the state decides to give to private schools, they will qualify.

Chief Willie Obiano Commended the efforts of the teachers in the mission school but he said anyone can teach in any school, irrespective of their denomination.

“A teacher is a teacher; there is no Catholic physics or Anglican Biology, everyone should teach in any school irrespective of their church,” he said.

The governor further stressed on the need for the church to do more in mission schools at the riverine areas. He gave the Anglican communion three hundred million Naira grant to run the school.

The event was attended by many clergymen in the state and other political representatives from Nnewi including; Hon. Amara Anazodo, Special adviser to the governor on Legislative matters, Melie Onyejepu, Special Adviser to the Governor on budget monitoring and implementation, Chukwudi Orizu, Transition Committee Chairman, Nnewi North, Nonso Smart Okafor, member representing Nnewi North LGA, APGA Faithful in Nnewi, teachers and students of mission schools.

The governor also gave a financial grant of four hundred and twenty three million Naira to catholic mission schools.

The governor has given a total of 2.3 billion Naira as financial grant to mission schools in the state since his administration.
