Sowore: Why Revolutionnow Didn’t Succeed – Ohanaeze Youths

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, on Wednesday gave reasons the RevolutionNow protest called by former African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore didn’t succeed in the South East.

OYC explained that the RevolutionNow protest didn’t hold in the South East due to lack of trust and past experiences of the region.

In a statement signed by its President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the youths insisted that most leaders of the South West never showed concern to the plight of the South East, hence the failure of the protest in the region.

OYC also called for the release of Sowore and the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The statement reads: “OYC observed that lack of Trust and past experiences in the South West made Igbos ignore the Revolution Protests Now, but rather engaged in their various activities and endeavours to ensure that economic activities continue in all the markets in Nigeria.

“Igbos observed that the South West is fully in-charge of the Federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, and should not complain as Vice President Osibanjo, Speaker Gbajimalia and National Leader APC plus Super Minister Fashola are protecting the Yoruba”s interest in the Buhari’s regime and Igbos are onlookers in the Nigerian Project.

“Throughout the Biafra Agitation protests against the perceived political oppression of Igbos recently apart from pockets of South West leaders who showed solidarity like Fani Kayode and Fayose, several Yorubas kicked against the Biafra Agitation protests in South West, and the Controversial but deliberate disenfranchisement of Igbo voters in 2015/2019 elections, and the threat of throwing Igbos into the lagoon, is what led to the perceived apathy towards joining the Revolution Protests against the Federal government.

“Since Igbos have been regulated to the background politically and it will be suicidal for them to be slaughtered in the temple of sentiments again, it’s lack of Igbos interest in the Revolution Protests that makes it impossible for it to succeed in the South East, irrespective of our boycott, We will continue to call for the unconditional release of the Presidential Candidate Of AAC Sowore from detention because of the grave implications as the international community are monitoring the development,We commend the Presidency for obeying the Court order to release of IMN leader El zakzaky, ask Yoruba nation to genuinely reconcile with Igbos in the coming up National Youth dialogue holding in Lagos October 1st, 2019.”

Recall that Sowore was recently picked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, for calling for the RevolutionNow protest.

Despite his arrest, the protest was held in some states across the country.
