Nonso Okafor Condemns Xenophobia Attacks, Blames Nigeria Poor Economy.

In his reaction to the continued Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other black Africans in South Africa, the Member Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Okafor (Smart), has not only condemned the act but has said that the killings are against the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

Condemning the act during the House of Assembly plenary, yesterday, Thursday, 12th September 2019, Nonso Okafor described the xenophobic attacks as barbaric, unethical, illegal and un-African.

For Nonso Okafor, what is happening is alien to South Africans as a nation, knowing fully well the history of South Africa, the struggle of Nelson Mandela and the contributions of African countries towards fighting apartheid.

Speaking further, Nonso Okafor was quick to admit that the unfavorable Nigeria economy has continued to force Nigerians to seek greener pastures outside the shores of Nigeria.

According to the Lawmaker, if urgent and responsible steps is not taken by Nigeria leaders towards improving the standard of living, millions of Nigerians will continue to migrate to other countries, thereby increasing the chances of Nigerians in diaspora being harassed or embarrassed.

He urged on Nigeria leaders to provide the needed leadership that will propel economic prosperity, to ensure that businesses in Nigeria thrive and the standard of living of Nigerians is improved.

He, however, called on the international community to place appropriate sanctions on South Africa, to serve as a deterrent, to avoid further reprisal attacks.
