ANAMBRA -The 7th Assembly of Anambra State has called on the Governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano to direct the commissioner for Information and other related agencies to intensify campaign on stimulating Anambra State indigenes to divest their investment to Anambra State, leveraging on the enabling environment.

The chief sponsor of the motion, Member representing Njikoka 2 constituency Pete Chima Ibida moved the motion and was seconded by Member representing Nnewi South 1 constituency Sonny Fredrick Ozobialu

While leading the debate, Ibida submitted saying “Ndi-Anambra are the most cosmopolitan business investors and have their huge investments in other parts of the country and beyond. Ndi-Anambra parades the greatest number and most resourceful businessmen and women in Nigeria with more than 80% of their investment outside the state.

“If most of our investors are stimulated and they divest their businesses to Anambra State, there would be a more robust socio-economic environment. If the ministry of Information and other related agencies intensify and aggressive campaign and embolden the investors to “think home”, the positive effects would be unquantifiable.

“Most of the major business in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano are owned by Ndi-Anambra. The present administration led by Obiano has created an enabling environment for business to grow. I see no reason why our people should not come back home and invest. The federal government is clamouring for backward integration. These are strategic tools to manage a business.

“Anambra State is currently the safest State in Nigeria with good road network. Our people are making waves everywhere. If our people invest back home, the rate of unemployed youths will reduce. They need to migrate back to Anambra is important. The time for Exodus is over. We have peace and security and street lights everywhere”. Ibida concluded

Other Lawmakers, who contributed to the motion, encouraged and appealed to Ndi-Anambra doing business outside the state to return home emphasizing that “Thinking home will increase the revenue of the state and will help in tacking so many challenges facing the state. Due to lack of information and sensitization, a good number of Anambra indigenes finds it difficult to invest here in the state. We need to join hands and send signals to our people; it will help to attract them back home.

“The vision of Anambra State as initiated by the Governor of the state is for Anambra to be the first choice investment destination where people can come and invest. For one to invest in a State there has to be a social and suitable environment were our people both home and abroad will see wealth creating opportunity. It will boost our economy.

“This is operation think home philosophy. If one invests in his state, it is more secure and has many advantages. Government cannot solve our problem. The rich among us can also assist. We are all aware of what Ndi-Anambra is made of. Our skills, potential and abilities. Not only that it will bring development, but will boost our IGR tremendously and also take our youths off the stress and reduce anti-socio behavior. We will keep sensitizing our people.
