NAUTH, Nnewi Holds The 3rd Edition Of Her Clinical Pathology Conference

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Nnewi on 23rd September 2019 held the 3rd edition of “Clinical Pathology Conference” at the Hospital Auditorium.

The conference saw the gathering of men and women, professors, health workers from different departments of the Institution, who came together to discuss pressing patient management cases.

There were several powerpoint presentations from the different departments on different case management; the drugs administered at different intervals, tests carried out, monitoring measures taken, challenges faced by the patients due to inadequate facilities, etc.

It was really an interactive session as questions were asked and adequate and satisfying answers were provided by professors who are older lords in the field of pathology which is the study of nature of the disease, its causes, processes, development, and consequences.

Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the occasion, who is also the chairman of the clinical ground round, Prof. D.C.D Anyiam who thanked the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Osita Igwegbe for proactive measures in improving case management even with limited resources.


He urged other professors and other health workers to be patient with the institution management in providing them with adequate spaces and facilities needed to function maximally.

The CMD, Prof. Osita Igwegbe who was visibly happy on the attendance and presentations made by different departments, promised them of his readiness to respond swiftly to the challenges addressed to the institution. He persuaded the health workers to make maximum use of facilities already provided for them because some of the machines are redundant and will soon break down completely due to not putting it to function.

Dr. Joseph Ugboaja, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) in an exclusive interview with Anaedoonline.com explained extensively the essence of the conference. In his words, he said, ” this is the 3rd edition of Clinical Pathologic Conference. It is a bi-monthly scientific meeting of all cadres of health care workers in the hospital geared towards – first, improving case management by discussing management of challenging cases; second, bringing the consciousness of multidisciplinary approach to patient management and lastly and very importantly, opportunities to discuss challenges in the hospital”.


He continued, ” every department need other departments in order to manage it’s patient’s case properly. Sometimes, some people forget it is a teamwork. We need to communicate because a patient in the ward needs many departments to help in his/her case”.

He thanked the CMD, the Board of the institution, the Professors in different health fields, departmental heads, other health workers and all those who attended the conference, praying them to imbibe team spirit to achieve the purpose of this conference.

Several attendees to the conference include but are not limited to; Dr. Ezekiel Afokonyo, Board Chairman NAUTH; Dr. Ndibe Okey, Board Member; Dr. Ogo Ezejiofor, Deputy CMAC; Associate Professor Obi Ulasi Thomas, Head of Department, Pediatrics; Prof. Obi Nwosu Head of Department, Obstetrics and Gynecology.
