The Ebonyi State house of assembly directed the Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim to swing into action within two (2) weeks and salvage the deplorable nature of Ngodo-Mater road in the Council Area.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who expressed displeasure at the terrible nature of the road gave the directive following the alarm raised over the nature of the road by the Deputy Leader and Member representing Afikpo North West Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ogbonnaya Ikoro, under matters of urgent public importance.
Hon. Ikoro lamented that Ngodo-Mater road is the only road leading to Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Afikpo – the only hospital that caters for the healthcare services of the people of the area. He narrated how a woman down with stroke was being rushed to the hospital and the vehicle had an accident along the road and she died on the spot, adding that if nothing is done urgently, more lives will be lost.

In his words, “We are asking the Chairman to make the road motorable. It is good the Local Government Councils are now autonomous and disburse their monies the way they want and since we are empowered by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to guide their operations, we are calling on the Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government to show action on that road within two (2) weeks, by making sure that palliative measures are put in place.”
The Speaker further directed the Clerk of the House to do a memo to the Local Government Chairman in that regard.
The House was adjourned till Monday, October 8 2019.
