Speaking further, Arinze Odogo spoke extensively about the ongoing land tussle going on between his father and his brother.

He said, “There has been several court litigations between my Father and his brother, Mr. Chidi Odogo who has been laying claims to our land where our house is situated. Everybody knows that the parcel of land belongs to my father and its written in the family will, but due to the fact that my father did not grow up in his father’s house, he grew up in Lagos where he gave birth to us (the children) The issue about the Land ownership came up. We returned to Nnewi Seven (7) years ago.  When my father returned from Lagos, he approached his brother, Mr. Chidi Odogo and other of the family members to make peace about a whole lot that has gone wrong in the family, but his brother refused to make the peace up till date”

“When my father died on Saturday, I wanted to bury him immediately as he instructed when he was alive, but I was stopped by one of my uncles by name Mr. Chidi Odogo, who wanted to take him to the mortuary. However, Immediately he died on Saturday, I went around to inform the family that my father died including that my father’s brother that is dragging the parcel of land with my father, Mr. Chidi Odogo, I didn’t meet him at home but I met the wife who I explained the purpose of my visit to.

Later in the day, I called some of my friends who helped me in digging the grave to bury my father but some members of our kinsmen called thugs with weapons(Like Guns, Axe, Machete, etc.) and pursued the boys digging the grave. That was how my father’s corpse remained in his room without embalmment or any form of treatment till today, Monday, 30th September 2019. “

I went to Igwe Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, he gave instruction that my father should be buried as he instructed but my family refused the order, I went again to Obi Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba, he told me that I should take my father’s remains at the mortuary on the basis that there is an on-going court case until the case is settled that is when his corpse will be buried.

I returned to Igwe the second time to report the situation to him, he sent his PG’s to our house but my father’s brother claimed that my father is not a biological son of the family, that he was adopted into the family by the late father. Some of my kinsmen prevented them from carrying out Igwe’s order saying that Igwe does not have right to give such orders to bury someone in Nnewichi but only Obi Nnewichi has the right to give such orders. Since Obi Nnewichi says no, that there is nothing that can be done about it.
