Anambra Blind Football Team Win Enugu Counterpart 1 – 0 In Onitsha

It was a dazzling encounter as Anambra Blind Football team defeats its Enugu counterparts one goal to nil when the visually impaired students played a football match at Christ the King College Onitsha

The saying, there is “Ability in Disability” came to fore. The football match which ended with one goal to nothing was played between team Anambra and Enugu States undergraduates, drawn from various universities within and outside the state.

The match which was kicked off by the patron, Anambra State Blind Association, Sir Godwin Okeke, lasted for twenty minutes and saw Mr. Chikezie Nwadike of Anambra State Team scoring the first and only goal at three minutes into the first half of the game.

Speaking in an interview after the match their patron, Okeke said he was overwhelmed by the boys’ performances noted that this would serve as an eye opener to people that even the blind can play football and enjoy normal life.

He advised the visually impaired to get acquainted with the group for them to discover their potential.

On his part a representative of Bina Foundation for people with Special Needs, the organiser of the Blind Football match, Mr. Chibuzor Orameh, noted that the aim was to tell people that the blind can also play football and disclosed that they have gone for an international tournament in Japan.

Orameh announced that the women wing will be playing at the African Women Blind Football Match as the federal government has approved Blind Football match as part of Para Athletic sports in Nigeria.

The lone goal scorer, Mr. Chikezie Nwadike, a student at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka who disclosed that he has been part of the team since 2017, added that he was so excited about the game as he loves playing football.
