Over 35 Passengers escape death in Anambra

Over 35 passengers escaped being burnt when the bus conveying them suddenly went up in flames along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway in Anambra State.

The bus owned by one of the transport companies in the South East was said to be heading to Lagos from Enugu when the occurrence took place.

It was gathered that the fire started from an overheated tyre, which got busted after the driver stopped to examine the bus.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Obadiah said the tyre of the bus busted when the driver stopped to check which of the tyres was faulty.

In his words, “It was while he was checking the tyre that it busted, emitting flames, which suddenly engulfed the bus”.
“All passengers on board were able to leave the bus with their belongings before the fire broke out.”

However, he said, efforts made by officials of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other spirited individuals to put out the fire was ineffective as the whole bus was completely destroyed

It was further learnt that the incident caused a temporary commotion along the highway as private and commercial vehicles scampered to safety.
