Delta State Firefighters To The Rescue As Onitsha Burns

It was a Black Day for Onitsha traders and passersby as A tanker carrying a full load of premium motor spirit had an accident and caught fire. Traders watched their life savings go up in flames as for over 2 hours, no fire fighting truck was on the scene to control the spread of the fire.

The fire was said to have started in front of Onitsha Mass South Transit, the tanker deposit of PMS was said to have spilled into the gutter that led to the spread of the fire to Upper Iweka.

After too many fruitless emergency calls to the Anambra firefighters, it took the intervention of the Delta State fire service to control the damage that has already been caused. According to eyewitnesses on the ground, the fire started from 2nd gate Ochanha and spread through Upper Iweka this afternoon. Some traders destroyed wooden structures so the fire doesn’t escalate to their plazas, a timely decision they had to do to save their goods.

Traders and customers count losses as they complain of the negligence of the state government in providing necessary infrastructure like a fire fighting truck to serve the location.

Onitsha happens to be the economic capital of the state but situations like gets people worried about government interest as regards the town that gives them more revenue.
