Minimum Wage: “Anambra Is Ready To Pay, We Are Only Waiting For Guideline” – Gov. Obiano

  • Governor Obiano, months back assured civil servants that he will be among the first states to paying the new minimum wage once the FG releases the necessary guidelines 
  • The minimum wage of N30, 000 had been passed into law but the contentious issue of consequential increment remained unresolved.

There were jubilations as the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress came to an agreement on the 30,000 new wage earlier agreed between the two parties. Anambra Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has reiterated the willingness of his administration in payment of new wage adjustment. It would be recalled that the number one citizen of Anambra months back assured 

He said he was committed towards upward adjustment of workers’ salaries in line with provisions of the new wage in Akwa.

The governor spoke while addressing Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria MHWUN, during its 2019 Quadrennial delegates Conference.

According to him: “This will be effected immediately the guidelines for implementation are released.”

He reminded the workers of his commitment to their welfare, even before the minimum wage issue was raised by labour.

Obiano said that minimum wage of N30, 000 had been passed into law but the contentious issue of consequential increment remained unresolved.

He, however, appealed for understanding, calm and sense of discretion by workers.

Obiano wished their challenges would be given due consideration by the government to enable them to function effectively.
