Even when the evidence abounds on the menace the herdsmen have caused the people of Benue State, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) has said it will never tender any apology to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom.

Rather, it demanded an apology from the governor for sending its members packing from where it called “our ancestral home in Benue State.”

MACBAB spokesman Gaurus Gololo, in a phone interview with The Nation yesterday about the apology tendered by another Fulani group called Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, to Governor Ortom, over killings in the state by herdsmen, said that rather than tender apology to Governor Ortom, they demanded apology from him over killings of their members and sending them away from their ancestral land in Benue.

Gololo, a former aide to Governor Ortom on Fulani Matters before things fell apart, said the Fulani group that tendered an apology to Governor Ortom had no member in Benue state, as the group was based in Jos, Plateau State.

He dismissed the apology as a smokescreen, which has no effect on the demand and position of MACBAN.

Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Terver Akase, said Governor Ortom would not join issues with Gololo because MACBAN had disowned him.

He said: “We will not join issues with Gololo.

“By the way, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has publicly stated that it has nothing to do with him. That he doesn’t speak for them. So there is no point responding to the man.”
