Imo Govt Sets Up Probe Panels; Heads May Roll At IMSU, IMSUTH.

Two tertiary institutions in Imo State, the Imo State University, Owerri and Imo State University Teaching Hospital, IMSUTH, Orlu, have come under the searchlight of the State government.

Two visitation panels have been constituted to look into the two citadels of learnings, including querying the appointments of the Vice Chancellors of both institutions and their financial status.

A statement by Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Mr.Chibuike Onyeukwu, said the panels are to among other things “conduct internal audits including the Bursary Department, aimed at ascertaining the financial status from 2012, including Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), University Microfinance bank and come up with a comprehensive report”

The Panels were also mandated “to investigate the award of contracts in the universities and ascertain if Due Process was adhered to in line with the Procurement Act 2017”

The issue of the appointment of Vice Chancellor of the universities will be scrutinized by the panel which has a month to turn in its report.

“Investigate the appointment of the Vice Chancellor, to ascertain if it was in conformity with due process” part of the State government statement reads

The Panels were also mandated to investigate the welfare of students.

“Ascertain the welfare of students and investigate allegations of sexual abuse, extortion, issues bordering on the allocation of hostels, substandard books, handouts, SUG election, and illegal payments”

The Panels have one month to tender it’s report and are headed by Prof (Ven) Chinedu Nebo (IMSU) and Prof Frank Akpuaka (IMSUTH).
