Nnewi: Chairman Frowns At Indiscriminate Refuse Disposal, Plans To Set Up Task force. (Photos)

– 186 Truck of Waste Evacuated

The Transition Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Rt. Hon. Engr. Prince Chukwudi Orizu has expressed dissatisfaction with the poor compliance of the residents and traders in Nnewi in waste disposal, saying that a task force will be set up to check erring person or groups of people on the issue of environmental sanitation and proper waste disposal.

In a chat with *Anaedoonline,* the Rt. Hon. Chukwudi Orizu said that he is committed to making sure that Nnewi is clean.

Speaking about the clearing and desilting of drainage channels in Nnewi which began last month, October, he said that the government has commenced the massive desilting of drainages across Nkwo Nnewi Market as part of efforts to rid the market from flood-related issues.

He said that the state government deployed caterpillars and tippers to clear the drains and canals that were blocked by indiscriminate dumping of refuge by traders. According to him, the massive evacuation of waste ensured that one hundred and eighty-six (186) truck of waste was evacuated, just at the motorcycle parts section of the market.

He submitted that the drains were cleared of silts and debris of all types ranging from jerry cans, nylons, sacks, polythene bags, tires, tubes engine blocks and the rest.

Speaking about the indiscriminate waste disposal and the practice of building on drainage channels, Prince Chukwudi Orizu said that after meeting with those involved, the stores and stalls erected on the drainage channels in Nkwo Nnewi is already being removed. He, however, noted that a task force will soon be set up to checkmate those who involve in indiscriminate dumping of waste.

On waste management in Nnewi, Engr. Chukwudi commended Chief Sir Innocent Chukwuma for his efforts through his company in the evacuation of waste in Nnewi metropolis.
