The candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), in the March 9th, House of Assembly election for Nnewi North State Constituency, Obinna Ngonadi, has reacted to the judgment of the Appeal Court on his petition against Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor’s victory in the election, noting that he will not want to delve into what transpired at the court.

The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu, today, affirmed Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor as winner of the 2019 House of Assembly election for Nnewi North State Constituency which held on the 9th day of March 2019, while throwing out Mr. Obinna Ngonadi petition challenging the outcome of the election.

In his reaction, Obinna Ngondi in his press release thanked his supporter but carefully failed to congratulate his opponent, Hon. Nonso Okafor, noting he is very convinced that Nnewi have been shortchanged for too long.

In his statement, Obinna Ngonadi, noted the his experiences gained in the course of the interactions with people during the primaries, campaigns and actual elections have shaped his life, revealing that his decision to see to the logical conclusion the outcome of the State House of Assembly elections for Nnewi North Constituency was out of his conviction.

Thanking his supporters he wrote, “I want to use this opportunity to thank my Leader and Senator, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah for his unalloyed support all through this journey. I thank my ardent, vibrant, “capacified” and loyal supporters, through sun and rain we stood together and fought the tide, we almost made it but we must take good lessons out of this contest.

My deepest appreciation goes to countless stakeholders in Nnewi, Dr Cletus Ibeto in particular, whose wise counsel and invaluable support was pivotal to my campaign.

To everyone who reached out to me on this journey, names are too numerous to mention but I truly and deeply appreciate you all”

Continuing, he wrote, “Another Phase of the journey has begun as I renew my commitment to my people and essential to the youths.

A lot of my activities will be channeled through my pet project; Dr Obinna Ngonadi Youth Foundation (DONYF) as we refocus our energy towards empowering our youths and the society through dynamic and impactful intervention packages”

According to him, he is very convinced that Nnewi has been shortchanged for too long, and will keep working with various stakeholders to ensure that the town receives the attention they have been deprived for long.

Enjoining Hon. Nonso Okafor to work hard and work selflessly by putting the constituency ahead of other interests, he inferred that the mandate of Nnewi people only legally rests with Hon. Nonso Smart.

It is important to note that Obinna Ngonadi lost to Hon. Nonso Okafor both in the party primaries, election, tribunal, and the appeal court.
