The Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has said that plans are underway to introduce a subject to be known as Creative Arts in both Primary and Secondary Schools in the State as a way of encouraging the younger generation to begin to appreciate the world of Arts.

Ugwuanyi was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 18th edition of Life In My City Arts Festival, (LIMCAF), 2019, sponsored by MTN and First Bank Holdings with the theme: The Other Side.

According to the governor, the subject, when included into the curriculum, will help groom young talents who will compete both nationally and internationally in line with the dreams and visions of LIMCAF in the state.

Ugwuanyi who thanked LIMCAF for its efforts in terms of repositioning the world of Arts in the country, noted that through the activities of the Festival, the State has become known throughout the country and even beyond.

“The activities of LIMCAF always bring people together which underscores the need for us to begin to better appreciate the beauty of Arts and we think that making Enugu State a creative Art Hub will help us better achieve that” he said.

Earlier in his address, the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe said that through its activities, LIMCAF has brought both social and economic upliftment to the State, the South East Region and indeed, the entire country.

He explained that the world of Arts remains one of the veritable means through which the lingering question of national peace and cohesion can be achieved in the country.

“Enugu is qualified to be an International Centre for Creative Arts Exhibiton. If the state is able to spearhead that, other states will not have any option than to buy the idea and then, we shall begin to appreciate the beauty of arts” he said.

Out of the 100 outstanding works, Lagos and Enugu Exhibition Centres had the highest number of selected entries with a total of 23 and 22 while Ibadan and Ondo had nine each. 10 of the works came from the Abuja exhibition centre, 11 came from Benin while seven came from the Port Harcourt centre, with six from Zaria and five from the Uyo.
